PUBLIC NOTICE ON ILLEGAL USE OF TELECOMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT It is hereby notified for the information of the general public, that the use and operation of any communication equipment of all description including Very Small Aperture Satellite (VSATs) terminals require a valid operating licence issued by the Controller of the Communications Authority. The Communications Authority of Zambia (CAZ) is therefore warning the public that it is an offence under the Radio Communications Act Cap. 169 of the Laws of Zambia to bring into the country, Telecommunications equipment without certification or operate such equipment including VSAT equipment without a licence from the Authority. All individuals and business entities which have brought in equipment and are operating illegally are requested to switch off their equipment immediately and apply for a licence through the Radio Frequency Management Department at CAZ. The Communications Authority wishes to further inform the public that it has launched physical inspections to check on all installations in the country and will take appropriate legal action as well as confiscating the equipment and handing over the culprits to law enforcement officers for prosecution in accordance with the Telecommunications Act. Once convicted, the culprit will be liable to pay a fine and/or be imprisoned for a period up to three years.
