MISSION STATEMENTOur visionary Board of Regulators -- uniquely representing a multitude of Zambian stakeholders -- and our customer-focused professional staff welcome you to The Communications Authority of Zambia (CAZ). We are dedicated to helping Zambians connect and communicate locally, nationally and internationally, via an ever-improving Zambian Information Infrastructure (ZII). We welcome and encourage your comments and suggestions, so that we can collaborate to radically improve Zambia's development. CAZ was formed by Act of Parliament No. 23 in 1994. The Communications Act both eliminated the State sanctioned monopoly in communications and officially transferred all communications regulation to CAZ. This regulatory jurisdiction includes, for example: licencing of all communications providers in Zambia (wired, cellular, value-added, etc.), national radio spectrum management, competition and interconnection oversight, service level monitoring, pricing and tariff approval, fee collection, complaint resolution, communications research and development promotion, and other areas. We fully intend to support investment and innovation in Zambian information networks, technologies, and training by supporting effective and efficient competition. We are now developing our staff and our plans with a keen eye on both African and Global leaders, so that development of the ZII is accelerated by lessons learned in both The Great Rift Valley and The Silicon Valley, but specifically shaped by Zambian minds--for Zambians. A great opportunity, provided by a worldwide information revolution (the Internet, Zamnet, etc.), exists in Zambia, now.
